Hi Forum Users,
Please see below the update we just made on Indiegogo concerning the availability of the ORA-X:
Hello Everyone,
Thanks for your messages and sorry to have made you wait so long for an update on the ORA-X. We've been super busy working on both he ORA-X and the ORA-2 smart glasses that are due out soon.
On the ORA-X here's the good news; the optics are finalized and are working great (this is the "hard" part with lots of uncertainty). There were some minor issues on image quality that we have improved through some tweaking of the optics and the mechanical chassis (the part that holds all the optical components and microdisplay together). However, we are struggling currently with some other issues relating to the electronics and mechanics. Some of these issues are related to supplier delays and some are related to the mechanical design.
We have made a few prototypes to test the viability of the mechanics (look and feel, weight, reliability of the moving parts like the arm, ergonomics, etc.). As this is a product that will be used and abused (as headphones generally are) we want to make sure that we have a robust product at the end of the day. We also need to make sure they are lightweight and easy to wear. The look and feel also needs to reflect the premium positioning of the product. This is an iterative process and requires building of and testing prototypes, integrating small changes, then building and testing again. What we don't want to do is to throw out a product that is not up to the high standards we have set for the ORA-X. Even if this means additional delays, we owe it to you, our backers to make the best product possible.
The supplier issues are related to the modifications to the electronic platform that are longer, more expensive, and more complicated than we had anticipated. We are working through these issues one by one but as you can imagine, the electronic platform (that's really a mini tablet) with multilayer PCB's and hundreds of components, sensors, and interconnects is complicated and each design change and iteration is costly and time consuming. We want to make sure we have a handle on the schedule before giving any wrong info to you but as it stands we don't yet have a clear timeline especially since some of the supplier issues are out of our hands.
Unfortunately this means that there will be delays vs. the original delivery schedule but we can't quantify it as of yet. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please stay tuned for more info. We haven't forgotten our backers nor our commitment to deliver the ORA-X
